  • Yoga, a Sanskrit term meaning literally “union", is a discipline that focuses the individual on a state of oneness of spirit, mind and body. Originally this was obtained through eight branches:

    • Yamas and Niyamas, ten ethical principles that allow us to be at peace with ourselves, our family, and our community
    • Asanas, the postures that develop and maintain strength, balance, and flexibility in the body
    • Pranayama, breathing practices that help develop strength and stability
    • Pratyahara, the drawing of one's attention toward silence rather than toward things
    • Dharana, focusing attention and cultivating inner perceptual awareness
    • Dhyana, sustainng awareness under all conditions
    • Samadhi, the return of the mind into original silence

Originating in ancient India as a means to spiritual enlightenment, today the focus is less on the metaphysical and more on the physical.

It’s estimated that there are 20 million Americans practicing yoga as a means of managing stress, retarding the aging process, promoting well-being, and gaining flexibility, balance, and strength. And the interest grows each year. Celebrities do yoga. Stores are full of yoga books, CD’s, and yoga equipment. A fad? Not a chance. We’ve been around for 5,000 years and are just beginning to pick up speed. We’re greatly needed in these stressful times; the body knows.

The goal of the International Yoga Asociation is to protect yoga instructors, help their businesses grow, and promote yoga to the masses. We work with an insurance underwriter that is part of the Health and Beauty Risk Purchasing Group which covers all yoga techniques. This is important to you because wherever you go to teach yoga, you need to be adequately insured. As a member of the Int'l Yoga Association, you automatically receive professional liability insurance for yoga instructors that is top notch! We also give you a free website to help promote your business and other great benefits as well.

Come join our family of yoga instructors as we help relax and balance the world.
